Many have asked for the PowerPoint presentations, they are not available at this time, but we are working on making the information available to all. As well, we are discussing with our partners the possibility of additional sessions in the new year. We will announce any new course offering via e-news.

Any AIBC registrants attending at the BC Hydro venues, please make sure you sign the AIBC Continuing Education System sign-up sheet that will be provided at each venue. Those who attended at the  AIBC have already had their Learning Units recorded.

Energy Efficiency Courses Full

The Know The Code? Courses on New Energy Efficiency Regulations, being held at the AIBC on November 26 and 27, 2013, have now sold out. However, additional sessions are taking place in early December through the Illuminating Engineering Society of British Columbia (http://www.iesbc.org/event-registration-list?archived=0). Please note that while the AIBC supports these sessions and has made its space available for hosting some of them, the sessions themselves are being offered through the BC Building & Safety Standard Branch. Some AIBC members have enquired as to whether any additional sessions are anticipated for Vancouver Island and the B.C. Interior. At this time there is nothing planned. However, the AIBC has passed along these requests and will keep you advised.

Know The Code? Courses on New Energy Efficiency Regulations

Effective December 20, 2013, both the 2012 BC Building Code and the 2014 Vancouver Building By-law bring into effect new energy efficiency requirements for Part 3 buildings. These new standards  – spelled out in ASHRAE 90.1 2010 and NECB 2011 – have been adopted in parallel, allowing designers to select one or the other. In preparation for the new regulations, the AIBC, BC Hydro, the province’s Building and Safety Standards Branch, the City of Vancouver and the Illuminating Engineering Society of BC (IES) have collaborated to offer a series of affordable training sessions for industry professionals. Specifically tailored for industry specializations, they are designed to provide designers with the specific information relevant to their work. All sessions will be taught by local leaders in their field, and each training units will comprehensively cover the new building code and building by-law energy requirements as well as both ASHRAE and NECB requirements, identifying where the standards will specifically differ. The architecture-specific sessions include General Overview & Compliance Requirements, and Envelope Requirements. Half-day courses (approximately three hours) will be offered from Tuesday and Wednesday, November 26 – 27, 2013 at the AIBC. The cost is $110 each. Space is limited; click here to register online.
