Oral Review Application Now Available

The next round of oral reviews will be held on Tuesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 23, 2014. There will also be an Oral Review Preparation Workshop on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 6:00 p.m.

The oral review is an interview-based examination open to those Intern Architects who have:

  • completed and logged at least 2800 hours; and
  • completed the required AIBC courses.

Oral reviews are also open to those Alternative Qualifications Candidates who have:

  • Successfully completed their Oral Assessment;
  • Successfully completed all oral assessment panel recommendations and/or requirements; and
  • Completed the six required AIBC courses.

Applications, along with an employer’s letter and fee payment, must be received by Friday, October 3, 2014. Eligibility will be confirmed by the Registration & Licensing Department. 50TH Anniversary of Architect Wolfgang Gerson’s Unitarian Church of Vancouver – Sept 14

Celebrating a Vancouver Architectural landmark, join the 50th Anniversary of Architect Wolfgang Gerson’s Unitarian Church of Vancouver.  The Panel and forum will take place Sunday, September 14th at 1:00pm at 49th and Oak St.

Acclaimed as one of Vancouver’s most beautiful buildings the church has served Unitarians and the community for half a century as a centre for spiritual enquiry, for arts and culture, for environment and social justice issues and as a civic gathering place. Join architects Erika Gerson and Kate Gerson, Rev. Phillip Hewett (Minister involved in the planning), Clive Justice (the original landscape architect), Dino Rapanos (retired UBC School of Architecture and colleague of Wolfgang’s) and Donald Luxton (cultural and heritage consultant) in this memorable review of a remarkable community asset. An exhibit accompanies the program.

The City of Vancouver has proclaimed September 14th as the “Unitarian Church of Vancouver Heritage Campus Day.”

P4A (Party for Architects) is a collective bringing together architects and designers of all spectrums since 2009 to celebrate design in Vancouver.  They would like to invite you to join the launch party for Vancouver Design Week.  Featuring Barbara Bestor of Bestor Architecture from Los Angeles and Vancouverites Gavin Froome and Mike Bernard, the directors of “Coast Modern” a film documenting West Coast modernist architecture from LA to Vancouver.  Come join them for an evening of conversation and mingling over drinks and music by DJ Llooped.

Heritage BC Annual Conference – Sept 26-27

The Heritage BC annual conference is taking place in Cloverdale on September 26-27th. This year’s theme, “Building Bridges”, is about bringing it all together and building bridges across diverse interests, challenges and approaches to heritage conservation in BC. Heritage BC welcomes members of the architecture sector to join heritage planners, professionals, business, government, educators and heritage organizations for two informative and energizing days of discussion, collaboration and networking. Members of the Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC) can also earn 7.0 Continuous Professional Learning Units per day for attending the conference. Some highlights of the conference include: the Keynote Speaker Associate Professor Maged Senbel, four sessions of concurrent workshops, Heritage BC AGM, and a unique Awards Gala at Fraser Downs Racetrack and Casino.

There will also be a Heritage Marketplace showcasing products, services and opportunities of special interest to the heritage conservation community in BC. The marketplace is an opportunity to reach out directly with an information booth in the atrium of the Cloverdale Recreation Centre throughout their Annual Conference.

43rd Annual Royal City Builders’ Awards – Call for Entry

Submit an entry for the 43rd Annual Royal City Builders’ Awards being hosted by the New Westminster Chamber of Commerce and Presented by First Capital Realty Inc.

These Awards have been a mainstay in the New Westminster community for 42 years. This year Todd Talbot, host of Love It or List It Vancouver will be the Emcee and Keynote Speaker. The addition of a VIP Builders’ & Developers’ Appreciation Reception also promises to be a highlight of the event where nominees, builders, developers, sponsors, VIP’s and guests have the opportunity to walk the red carpet and network from 6:00pm – 7:00pm, prior to the Awards ceremony and dinner which commences at 7:00pm.

There have been some minor updates to the categories and a new template for submissions was developed to ensure that the Judging Panel is able to objectively review all submissions. Entries are to be submitted by 5:00pm Friday, September 26 via email only to pbuck@eventfulinnovations.com. Submissions received later than the specified date and time cannot be accepted.

Doors Open Vancouver – Oct 4

The Vancouver Urbanarium Society, in partnership with the City of Vancouver are presenting Doors Open Vancouver – October 4, 2014 from 10am – 5pm. DOV will offer free behind the scenes access to buildings that highlight Vancouver’s civic services and diverse architectural heritage. Similar Doors Open events are hosted in cities across the world, including London, New York and Toronto, attracting hundreds of thousands of participants. Doors Open Vancouver is excited to help present an inside view of Vancouver spaces, with special tours by professionals and enthusiasts.

Doors Open Vancouver is seeking volunteers to join them on the day of the event and help showcase these buildings. General volunteers are needed, as well as those with special expertise in architecture or related fields.  Volunteers sign up to participate.
