Architectural Bicycle Tour

Cycling enthusiasts with an interest in architecture (or vice versa) are invited to sign up for the AIBC’s first ever Architectural Bicycle Tour. Knowledgeable guides will share a two-wheel perspective on the evolution of Vancouver’s built environment. The three-hour, 24-kilometre tour will explore portions of False Creek, Shaughnessy, Mt. Pleasant, Grandview, Strathcona and East Vancouver (click here to view a detailed map of the tour route). Riders must bring their own bicycle and helmet. It takes place Saturday, September 14, 2013, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., starting and ending at the Vancouver Salt Company building, 181 – 1st Avenue West. Vancouver Sends Out International Call For Architects For New Art Gallery Building

Shortlist of qualified firms will be selected before design visions are requested

The Vancouver Art Gallery has started the process of choosing an architect to design a brand new art gallery at Larwill Park on West Georgia and Cambie in downtown Vancouver. On Thursday, the gallery announced that architects in B.C. and around the world can submit formal qualifications to design the new building, intended to be double the size of the gallery’s current home. IDIBC Awards of Excellence

Don’t miss this year’s Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia Awards of Excellence Gala on Friday, September 20, 2013 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West. The evening will recognize exemplary projects reflecting a wide variety of project sizes and types. Following the gala, this year’s awards winners will be showcased at the IDSWest floor. Chapter Meeting and Lunch Presentation: Door Systems

The first chapter meeting for the 2013/14 session will feature a lunch-and-learn presentation sponsored by Westgate Entrematic. The subject: Sectional Overhead and Coiling Door Systems & Introduction to High Performance and High Speed Door Systems.  The one-hour presentation will cover sectional overhead/coiling door systems as well as introduce the high performance and high speed door sector. British Columbia Building Envelope: An Evening with Joe Lstiburek

Be part of an interactive session with Joe Lstiburek Ph.D, P.Eng. ASHRAE Fellow, and other industry leaders to discuss trends and concepts in building science. Dr. Lstiburek is a principal of Building Science Corporation who is internationally recognized as an authority on moisture-related building problems and indoor air quality. The author of numerous books and technical papers on building science, he is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto and former Director of Research of the Housing and Urban Development Association of Canada. Attendees will enjoy a moderated two-hour open dialogue on a range of preselected topics meant to encourage open and enlightened discussion on local “made in BC” building challenges.
