Women in Architecture:

Tour of New UBC Student Union Building Construction Site

Join Women in Architecture for a site tour of the new University of British Columbia Student Union Building construction site. The project is currently at the stage of being closed in, so this event offers an ideal opportunity for attendees to get a sense of the overall shape of the design. Participants will also be able to see the building envelope in the process of installation, as well as many of the building systems. This 250,000 sq. ft., $100 million project, designed by DIALOG + B+H, will replace the existing Student Union Building as the heart of the campus. The building is designed targeting LEED platinum status. Sustainability features of the design will also be discussed. The tour will be led by the project architect, project construction administrator, project interiors architect, as well as construction managers. Pre-registration for this event is required. Please r.s.v.p. to wia.vancouver@gmail.com to reserve a spot. As this is an active construction site, participants are required to bring their own steel-toed boots, hard hat, safety glasses & vest to wear on site. For all those interested, we will go to a nearby café after to gather and eat and drink together. This event takes place Thursday September 12, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. sharp. Please meet at the site trailer off East Mall just north of University Boulevard.
