Current Exhibition: Swiss Positions – 33 Takes on Sustainable Approaches to Building

The AIBC Gallery is pleased to host this international exhibition featuring 33 emblematic Swiss projects built over the past 20 years. In partnership with the Consulate General of Switzerland, Pacific Arbour Retirement Communities, the Swiss Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Ventana Construction.

While projects are spread geographically throughout Switzerland’s four linguistic regions, all exemplify unique solutions to sustainable development through technical expertise and innovation. The exhibition explores the architectural practices, engineering techniques, materials, and environmental protection methods used. The interaction between the built and natural environments while practicing responsible architecture is highlighted.

Through this exploration, visitors will see that sustainable development is not a ready-made formula, but rather a pursuit that challenges and inspires. The projects of architects such as Herzog & de Meuron, Gigon/Guyer and many more show that there is nothing that cannot be expressed by inventive, visual architecture that retains its capacity for complying with demanding ecological and economic choices. This exhibition, conceived and managed by art historian Nathalie Herschdorfer, is presented by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with Swiss Embassies and Consulates around the world. This unique exhibition will be available for public viewing from September 12 to October 17, 2013. The AIBC Gallery is free and open to the public Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
