Compliance with ASHRAE 90.1 in the British Columbia Building Code (Victoria)

In April 2013, the British Columbia Building Code 2012 was updated to reference ASHRAE 90.1 2010: Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings and the National Energy Code for Buildings 2011 (with a December 2013 effective date). This provides a choice of either standard for compliance. In partnership with Vancouver Island Chapter of ASHRAE, BCBEC is hosting a panel discussion intended to address questions of compliance with ASHRAE 90.1 and the National Energy Code for Buildings with perspectives from four key constituencies: architect, consulting engineer, building official and provincial government official. Moderated by Andrew Pape-Salmon P.Eng. MRM of RDH Building Engineering Ltd., the discussion will include: questions on the role of each professional group in supporting compliance with ASHRAE under the BCBC; interactions between professional groups (notification, sub-contracting, signoffs, Letters of Assurance, etc.); design, construction and commissioning processes (scheduling, roles and responsibilities); and gaps in knowledge that could be addressed through education and training. The panelists include: Bob Thompson (Building and Safety Standards Branch); Don Pedde (Building Inspector – District of Saanich); Alex McGowan P.Eng. (Levelton Consultants Ltd.); and Doran Musgrove Architect AIBC (Doran Musgrove Architect). It takes place Wednesday, July 3, 2013, 12:00 noon – 1:30 p.m. at the Harbour Towers, 345 Quebec Street, Victoria. To register, click here.
