Additional information, including nomination forms and candidate statements can be found on the AIBC’s Annual Meeting web page. Beginning in early May, a package including the annual meeting information and election materials will be mailed directly to all AIBC members and honorary members in keeping with act and bylaw requirements. The election period will close shortly after the commencement of the 2013 Annual Meeting, taking place Saturday, June 1, 2013, 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Segal Graduate School of Business, Simon Fraser University Downtown Campus, 500 Granville Street, Vancouver. Ballots will be counted during the course of that meeting, with the five successful candidates for a two-year term on AIBC Council announced prior to adjournment. In addition, Derek Deland IA.AIBC is the sole nominee for the position of Intern Architect Liaison to AIBC Council, a non-voting positon at the council table.

AIBC Power Outage This Weekend

The AIBC offices will be without power during the April 27-28 weekend in order for BC Hydro to carry out repair work. This planned outage will affect all AIBC systems including computers and telephone. As a result, e-mail and voice mail service will be unavailable effective Friday afternoon. It is anticipated that full operations will resume on Monday morning, April 29. Your understanding and patience is appreciated.

In this seminar, Ali Nazari MASc Eng. will explain the benefits and applicable functions of various energy modeling services. When these services are effectively integrated in the design process, project design is enhanced and capital and operating costs are reduced. This presentation will also illustrate how these services should be applied during the different project development stages in order to yield the greatest benefit for both architects and owners. Role Call: Regulatory Coordination Committee

The AIBC’s Regulatory Coordination Committee seeks a new member. The committee acts as a resource to the AIBC’s Professional Services Board and the Director of Professional Services in matters related to the provision of architectural expertise on building industry regulations, as well as providing input for the institute’s professional development courses. Specific areas of involvement include:

  • the coordination of uniform interpretation and application of building and zoning regulations;
  • provision of a forum for the expression of mutual concerns between regulatory authorities and design professionals;
  • monitoring letters of assurance;
  • the Certified Professional Program; and
  • municipal regulation changes.

This committee typically meets at the AIBC offices from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. (lunch provided) on the last Wednesday of every month excluding July, August and December.
