Renfro Lecture

The University of British Columbia’s Belkin Art Gallery invites you to attend a keynote lecture with Charles Renfro, speaking about the importance of the arts within considerations of city building and design, and urban planning. Renfro is a partner in the New York-based architectural firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro, celebrated for its efforts to integrate architecture, visual art and the performing arts to produce landmark buildings. Part of the 2013 Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies International Roundtable discussion series and presented in partnership with Emily Carr University of Art + Design, it takes place Friday, May 10, 6:30 p.m. at the Lecture Theatre – South Building, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, 1339 Johnston Street (Granville Island), Vancouver. ID Degree at BCIT

The British Columbia Institute of Technology has announced the addition of a Bachelor of Interior Design option to its well-respected certificate and diploma offerings. Available through BCIT’s School of Construction and the Environment, the program will be offered as both an accelerated, 16-month full-time course and a part-time option. The introduction of the new program coincides the Interior Designers Institute of British Columbia requirement, effective in 2015, of a bachelor degree in interior design as the minimum requisite education for those wishing to become registered in interior designers.

Founding Faculty Members Hired at Laurentian University’s School of Architecture

The first faculty appointments at the new Laurentian University School of Architecture are now in place, with the hiring of six “outstanding” professors, according to Laurentian Architecture’s Founding Director, Dr. Terrance Galvin. “We couldn’t have hoped for a better team of people to launch our charter class in September,” said Galvin. “Each of these candidates, individually, is very strong. But the combination of the six, with their diverse backgrounds and complementary skills and interests, will create a truly dynamic and inspiring team at Laurentian Architecture.
