Employment Survey: Is Architecture Working? (UK)

BD’s survey of employment in architecture reveals a generation responding to hard times by going freelance, working part-time or even pursuing new careers outside the profession.

Architecture’s real unemployment figures have always been difficult to pin down. The only solid data available is the number claiming jobseeker’s allowance seeking work as an architect. Since 2010 that number has dropped from a high of 1,500 to January’s 770, representing just 2% of the profession. But these relatively low numbers mask a much deeper problem.
