Light House Sustainable Building Centre

Energy Impact: Building & Retrofitting Efficient Multi-Unit Residential Buildings

Multi-unit residential building (MURB) suites account for an estimated 60% of Vancouver’s dwelling units and represent the fastest growing housing segment in the city. Studies show the potential for 40% to 70% reduction in energy consumption for MURBs through energy efficiency upgrades. Light House, in partnership with BC Hydro and FortisBC, is pleased to offer a half-day workshop on energy efficiency improvements for both new and existing mid- to high-rise residential buildings. Hear from energy experts and learn how to assess opportunities for energy and cost savings based on actual testing and monitoring data from in-service buildings. Learn about:

  • How to take advantage of BC Hydro and FortisBC incentives for saving energy;
  • The latest research on building envelope, thermal transfer, insulation, air tightness and compartmentalization;
  • Impacts of building envelope enclosure (upgrades) on energy consumption specifically related to space heating; and
  • Air leakage policy and best practices for Vancouver buildings.

It takes place Wednesday, March 6, 2013, 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre, 515 West Hastings Street, Vancouver. To register, visit http://www.eventbrite.com/event/5049471104?ref=ebtnebregn#.
