2013 AZ Awards

AZURE Magazine invites entries for its 2013 AZ Awards, an international program that recognizes design excellence in the areas of Architecture, Concepts, Design and Interiors. The Architecture categories include Commercial and Institutional Buildings; Landscapes; Residential Buildings; and Temporary and Demonstration Spaces. There is also the A+ Award, a $5000 cash prize granted for the best design product, architectural structure, interior space or concept developed by a student enrolled in a design or architecture program in 2012. Eligibility  for the 2013 AZ Awards includes projects completed prior to December 31, 2012.

Due to popular request, the deadline has been extended to Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at 12 noon EST.

Order of Canada for Cheng

James Cheng Architect AIBC, of Vancouver-based James K.M. Cheng Architects Inc., has been named a Member of the Order of Canada, one of 91 new inductees announced by Governor General David Johnston. It represents Canada’s highest civilian honour recognizing outstanding achievement, dedication to community and service to the country. The Order of Canada consists of three levels of honour: companion, office and member.

Women in Architecture

This event showcases a dynamic group of women working in and around the field of architecture. Each presenter will offer a very brief presentation of some of their work and the ways in which they have woven architecture into their lives.  This will include a sole practitioner, a partner of a larger firm, an employee of a smallish firm, a foreign registered architect, an architect working primarily in urban design, and an architectural graduate working in film set design. This event is particularly intended to reach out to the student community and will be held at the UBC School of Architecture. It is also hoped that there will be a good showing of enthusiastic women already working in the profession. It takes place Tuesday, January 15, 2013, from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the
Lasserre Building, UBC Campus, Room 202 (http://www.maps.ubc.ca/PROD/index_detail.php?show=y,y,y,y,y,y&bldg2Search=n&locat1=028&locat2=#showMapLocal). As this is a pot luck; please bring a finger food dish to share.
