Third New LG Appointee Confirmed

The provincial government has successfully filled the remaining Lieutenant Governor Appointee vacancy on AIBC Council. I am pleased to welcome to the council table:

Dr. Mark Zacharias – Mark is currently Assistant Deputy Minister with the British Columbia Ministry of the Environment – Environmental Sustainability and Policy Division where he is responsible for provincial mapping and geographic information programs as well as its ecosystem-based management programs. He joined the provincial government in 1995, working on land and marine planning issues and has since worked in eight different ministries in a variety of increasingly senior capacities. Previously, he held ADM positions in post-secondary education and land management within the B.C. public service. Mark is also an Adjunct Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Victoria. His research focuses on meso-scale marine ecology and the confluence of conservation and policy issues. He holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Science from the University of Victoria and a PhD in Zoology from the University of Guelph.

Mark joins the recently-appointed Steve Simons and Joe Thompson along with David Toole as the four LG Appointees to council. The province’s Board Resourcing and Development Office designates LG Appointees, a voluntary role, to regulatory bodies such as the AIBC with the express purpose of protecting the public interest.

The next formal meeting of AIBC Council is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

Should you have additional questions, feel free to contact me directly.

Sincerely,

David Yustin Architect AIBC
AIBC Council President
