Launching Regional Industrial Symbiosis in Metro Vancouver: Our Pathway to a Low Carbon Economy

Industrial Symbiosis looks at interactions between the environment, the economy and industry, and promotes the sharing of materials to minimize waste by following the example of a mature natural ecosystem where symbiotic relationships exist between organisms within close geographic proximity. In this presentation Peter Laybourn, CEO, International Synergies will discussthe United Kingdom’s National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP), which was developed to help businesses from many sectors come together to find uses for unwanted materials, aiming to divert significant waste loads from the landfill and produce bottom line benefits for companies through reduced disposal costs and new commercial opportunities, by sharing assets, resources, logistics and expertise. The discussion will lead into a preview of the Metro Vancouver regional industrial symbiosis project launching in early 2013. It takes place Tuesday, October 14, 2012, 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Kentwood Studios, 2058 Pine Street, Vancouver. To register for this free event, visit
