Public Talk: Urban Screens & City Building

Berlin-based urban media researcher Mirjam Struppek will present “The Growing Global Phenomenon of Urban Screens”, offering a look at crucial issues such as rethinking content, ownership, infrastructure and careful integration in the urban environment. Struppek, who works internationally as an urbanist, researcher and curator, is the founder of the International Urban Screens Association. She is an advocate for using screens in public spaces for cultural content as well as site-specific and interactive screening projects. In this free public presentation, international examples showcased in past urban screens and media facades festivals will be shared as experiments in this growing field of urban digital culture. It takes place Friday, December 2, 7:00 p.m. in the Westminster Savings Lecture Theatre at Simon Fraser University’s Surrey Campus, 13450-102 Avenue (just south of the Surrey Central SkyTrain station). While admission is free, seating is limited; please pre-register at artgallery@surrey.ca.
