Saint-Michel Environmental Complex (SMEC) Soccer Complex Architecture Competition

This two-stage competition’s objective is to build a new covered soccer stadium (1,000 seats) and, at a later stage, an outdoor playing field at the Saint-Michel Environmental Complex (SMEC) in Montreal. The SMEC area use to be the Miron quarry and landfill site but has been converted to a major urban park in the last 15 years and where, most noticeably, the Cirque du Soleil has decided to build its headquarters. The SMEC is a model in sustainable development: hence, the new soccer complex is targeting a LEED-NC Gold certification. This is not an ideas competition: the laureate project will be built. (more…)
